Ideally located at the mouth of the channel, The Port du Havre benefits from a great asset : its draught. It is actually one the only deep sea ports in Northern Europe where the biggest container ships can be handled with no tidal restrictions.

Le Havre is the first port of call for ships lines to Northern Europe and the last port for those leaving Northern Europe, allowing shipping companies to arrive fully loaded and leave Europe with an optimum load.

The hinterland of Le Havre is well connected to the Paris region by road, rail and barge but also to the East of France, Marseille, Bordeaux Montoir, Dunkerque, Switzerland and Italy served by specialised trains.

One of the GMP's jobs is also the transhipment of containers due to their excellent transit times and numerous «feeders» connections they have in place in Northern Europe, Great Britain, Ireland and Spain and Portugal as welle as the french ports : Dunkerque, Montoir de Bretagne, Bordeaux.
